I am not just talking about Franzia, which has the reputation for being the white trash version of premium wine, and I have to admit that I was turned off to the idea at first too. But boxed wine is on the rise because it is the more eco-friendly and economical option when you want a great tasting wine to last. Apparently, there are numerous companies making boxed wine that have it stored in recyclable cardboard containers, and the spigot works to keep the wine from being oxygenated after it is open so that it stays fresher for longer.

The best part of all is the price because you are getting four bottles for the price about $15-$20, depending on what you buy. I checked out a bunch of different boxed wine options on my iPhone, and my preference so far is the Bota Box in Shiraz, which is one of my favorite full-bodied types of red wine. This will last my girlfriend and I for about a week or two since we like to have a couple of glasses nightly with dinner, and it retains its freshness. Awesome.
